University of Pittsburgh

A Large Project with Pipelined Production

Furnish 5 floors of a 6 story building with a wide variety of furniture and finishes: private offices, student workstations, classroom tables with flush mounted power, freestanding storage units, and conference tables. The volume of furniture required deliveries being coordinated into separate schedules so business could continue being conducted in the building during installation.

Project management expertise provided by Design Options included: Segregated production into 6 delivery schedules and furniture production by floor allowing minimal disruption while furnishing the building; "typical"
quotes identifying each style of workstation with a tag; trucks packed and scheduled to arrive at the job site in an efficient manner to streamline unloading and transporting furniture to each floor. A Design Options Installation
Manager was provided on-site for each schedule to ensure proper quality control and customer satisfaction.

Key Factors for Choosing Design Options
Design Options provided a product-driven desking system approach to offices. They provided clear column overhead systems, a range of colors, folding tables, lateral files and storage all manufactured by the same company.

pitt04 400The University of Pittsburgh required a wide range of furniture for their new MPAC building. From student workstations to training areas, Design Options was able meet their requirements using the Elements line.

pitt05 400Due to the size of the project (over $2 million list) production and delivery were broken down into 6 schedules, each one by floor, minimizing disruption while furnishing the building. This allowed business to be conducted while the installation was in progress.

University of Pittsburgh
When the University of Pittsburgh decided it was time to furnish their new MPAC building on campus they needed every style of furniture we offered. From private offices, rows of classroom desks, individual student workstations, large and small conference tables, and freestanding furniture, Design Options found a way to provide for every need they communicated. All of this was accomplished while producing and coordinating production and delivery by floor. Our project management team member went above and beyond to ensure the project was a success, and delivery and installation was even completed ahead of schedule.

"Design Options provided an excellent product on time with a very tight schedule. The dealer started receiving product for installation within 30 days of the authorization to proceed. We are very pleased with the timely performance and the finished results."
